PCMCIA Video Card
by Staff Writer
Despite all their advantages over desktops, laptops are still limited when it comes to a few key provisions. These are mainly hardware-based. For one, laptops usually do not have the same processor speeds, RAM memories, and hard drive spaces that desktops do. This is simply because, in an effort to fit everything in the laptop, computer manufacturers had to cut corners.
Another weakness is in the area of sound and video cards. However, unlike the above hardware stats, this is one area where an upgrade is easy and remarkably effective. A PCMCIA video card is a device that plugs into a laptop’s PCMCIA slot and provides high-quality video on the screen. Why is this important? There are several applications.
First, all computers are quickly becoming the hubs for our home entertainment experience. DVD-quality video is not possible using the video cards that come factory-installed by most manufacturers (although there are exceptions). PCMCIA video cards are the best choice for exporting DVD pictures from a computer to a television.
Video games are also becoming more CPU-intensive. The most popular video games now require high quality video cards. Laptop owners shouldn’t be excluded from the fun. To participate at a higher “level,” a PCMCIA video card is necessary. Synchrotech also supplies xD-Picture Cards. One of the smallest media storage formats in existence, xD-Picture Cards are available in sizes up to one gigabyte. It is now possible to take potentially thousands of pictures using an xD-Picture Card.
