Room Air Conditioners

by Staff Writer

How should you handle maintenance issues with your room air conditioner? If you run into a severe problem, such as a ruptured line, it’s probably smart to call in a professional service technician. After all, if you try to replace a ruptured refrigerant line yourself, you could create a hazardous situation, particularly if you use regular soldered copper wire. (Most room air conditioners need silver soldered lining to function at capacity.)

If you’re someone who likes particularly chilly room temperatures, you should be aware that operating your room device at ambient temperatures below 70 degrees could cause frost to build up on your evaporator coils. If that happens, air flow may be restricted, and your fan motor could break. So what should you do if you live in a climate where it’s extremely hot during the day and cold at night?

Solving Problems with Room Air Conditioners
One solution could be to time your room air conditioner to turn off after a certain hour. That way, your device won’t build up frost, and you can maintain a steady temperature differential throughout the day. Indeed, scientific health studies suggest that it’s beneficial to maintain a regular ambient temperature. You should also clean your air conditioner’s air filters regularly to avoid blowing particulate matter and mold into the air.

Unfortunately, most people don’t clean their air conditioners nearly enough. Corporate air conditioners, in particular, have a reputation for being exceptionally dirty. If you don’t sanitize your grill and your air vents regularly, you could release a significant quantity of unsanitary air particles into your living space.
