Find Adopted Child

by Staff Writer

Every day newspapers and magazines are filled with stories about adopted children searching for their birth parents. However, precious little attention is paid to the fact that many reunions are the result of birth parents searching for the children they gave up. This lack of media attention can give birth parents the idea that their feelings and needs are not as important, as meaningful, or as significant as those of their adopted children.

False impressions such as these keep many birth parents strait-jacketed with guilt and keep them from initiating a search for their offspring. Many experts agree that the entire closed-adoption system is built on the idea that adoption is a shameful act requiring complete anonymity. Just as many adopted children experience feelings of abandonment, many parents who gave their children up for adoption experience paralyzing shame.

BirthSearcher.com doesn’t believe in shame or judgement. I believe that birth parents are not rejecting their child, but rather they are rejecting parenthood. For many various and valid reasons, birth parents are not ready to parent. Knowing this and taking the very personal and emotional step to place a child for adoption takes courage and the firm belief that this child will have a better life than the birth parent or parents are able to offer at the time. In other words, your reasons for giving your child up for adoption are no one’s business but your own, your child’s and their adoptive family’s. You are never expected to explain your actions, but if you wanted to, you’d have a supportive ear at BirthSearcher.com.

I started BirthSearcher to find the children who had been separated from my family by adoption. I know what it’s like to be on your side of the search. My successes in finding my own family members motivated me to take this passion and make it my career. I know that making the decision to find your adopted child is not an easy one to make. But I will strive to make the search itself as emotionally safe for you as possible.

    Hello,

I’m looking for two of my brothers, who I’ve never met. They were born in these years I believe:
    1). 1982 - Christopher Jurgenson
    2). 1981 - Joseph Jurgenson

It is my belief they were adopted in or around:
    Nipomo, CA

Please let me know if you can provide information leading to locating them, as they are family.
    Thank You,
    Jeremiaj J. Jurgenson - 1985
