Chromatic Tuner

by Staff Writer

A chromatic tuner can be used to tune your guitar, bass, banjo, violin, or any musical instrument. They are also commonly used for finding a pitch in singing. A chromatic tuner identifies or plays the twelve notes in a chromatic scale. This scale normally starts on C and climbs up in pitches a half step at a time. So, a chromatic scale contains 12 semitones or half steps to an octave.

Here at Farley’s Musical Essentials, our chromatic Pocket Tones tuner is our best-selling product. Customers the world over tell us just how handy it can be to have an accurate musical pitch always at hand. The Pocket Tones chromatic tuner is used in quartets, choral groups, a cappella groups, church choirs, for tympani tuning and for solo artists who sing with no accompaniment. The Pocket Tones chromatic tuner is ideal for personal practice, note identificaton, and development of relative or perfect pitch.

Our chromatic tuner now offers a volume control button. So, you can adjust the tuner to a volume that works for you and your setting. We have also added the ability to select pitches individually. Instead of toggling through many notes to find the right pitch, all you have to do is push the button for the pitch you want to hear.

Finally, here are some practical hints for getting the most out of Farley’s chromatic Pocket Tones:

a) Practice pitch matching - play the tone and then sing the pitch.

b) Sing a unison or harmony pitch with the Pocket Tones. See if your voice can remain constant, unwavering, like the tone you are matching.

c) Practice developing relative/perfect pitch - attempt to sing the tone before pushing the button. The chromatic Pocket Tones can be useful to you anytime, anywhere. It’s on your keychain so when you find yourself with a spare minute anywhere, you can work on singing the pitch first and then checking yourself with the tones.

c) Learn a melody line. If you don’t have access to a piano, you can pick out the pitches on the Pocket Tone to help you learn a melody from sheet music.

d) Have a chance to sing somewhere but there’s no music? Make sure you get started on the right pitch!

f) Practice and learn intervals. Develop your musical ear by learning to identify the sound of one note to another.

Farley’s Pocket Tones are a simple, yet beneficial tool for any musician. Buy one for yourself or a friend and join the millions of musicians who recognize the absolute importance of accurate pitch recognition.
