Chocolate Labradoodles
by Staff Writer
Adopting a young puppy is a joyous time for any family. Dogs are filled with unquestioning warmth and loyalty, and they have the capability to add another layer of brightness to even the happiest home.
Labradoodles are a relatively new mix between a labrador and a poodle. Breeders in Australia in the 1970s first developed the breed because they wanted to pair the best qualities of both dogs into one new breed. The idea was to create a companion dog for disabled people–one that is compatible with someone who has allergies. A labrador has the right set of smarts and temperament to make it a great companion dog, while the poodle’s kinky and curly hair is considered the most allergen-friendly. The resulting mix allowed disabled people with allergies to own a guide dog, and a new breed was born.
Nowadays, you don’t have to have special requirements to enjoy a labradoodle. Along with having the right emotional characteristics to be companion dogs, they also happen to be a breathtakingly cute. In fact, they’re downright adorable. They have the bodies of labradors but the coats of poodles.
These dogs come in many colors. Among them are several general color groupings, including chocolate, white, cream and apricot. There are also several types of labradoodle coats. There’s the long, flowing fleece coat and a shorter, bunchier woolly coat. A labradoodle will sometimes have a flat coat or a long, wavy hair coat, but these are quite uncommon, especially as labradoodle breeding has become more advanced.
