Labradoodle Training

Every dog can use a little training to help him learn the rules of the house. One good thing about labradoodles is that they are very intelligent dogs–not to mention the fact that they are totally adorable and their coats are allergy-friendly. Labradoodles are so smart, in fact, they are used as seeing-eye, therapy, and assistance dogs. In fact, they’re also used in Australia by authorities for seizure and alert purposes.

All this intelligence can spill over in the home, however, and result is a dog that is sometimes a little too smart for its own good. Some labradoodle puppies will show signs of mischief and tomfoolery.

In this case, early training is highly recommended if you want to make sure your puppy doesn’t grow up with any bad habits. Here are some tips that you can take into consideration, depending on how strict you want your training discipline to be: don’t reward your puppy with a pat when up on its hind legs, don’t hold the puppy when you are sitting on a couch, and put your puppy in a crate to instruct it on “quiet time” and don’t let it out if it is barking.

Don’t let your children run around the house when playing with your puppy, or it will become too excitable in the house. Be firm and consistent when disciplining your puppy at bad behavior like biting or nipping. Lastly, teach your puppy to submit to you quietly when handling its coat, mouth and ears, so that when you need to groom its coat later it is not a problem.
