Audiobooks
by Staff Writer
CD audiobooks are wildly popular for a number of reasons. For one, they allow people to absorb a book without actually reading it. This is appealing to those who have difficulty focusing on the tiny print found in most books, or for people who simply have trouble concentrating for extended periods of time. It also makes it possible to “read” a book while commuting to work or while relaxing in bed at the end of the day.
However, there is one downside to typical audiobooks on CD. A single book can require anywhere from one up to 10 or more CDs, depending on its length. This hinders portability and severely limits the places in which you can listen to an audiobook. At Kitabe.com, we hope to change all of this by providing unabridged audiobook rentals contained on a single compact disc.
It’s possible for us to offer our Kitabe.com members unabridged audiobooks on a single CD thanks to MP3 technology. What this does is condense the data stored on a CD to a more manageable size without compromising audio quality. A book like the classic The Canterbury Tales, for example, would typically take five or more compact CDs to store the entire book. But at Kitabe.com, the MP3-CD audiobook version requires only one disc.
You can join Kitabe.com’s online audiobook rental service for a low monthly fee. Included in this monthly fee are unlimited rentals of our nearly 2,500 books and free shipping both ways. After registering, members can add as many titles as they want to their online “Wish Lists.” Then, rentals are shipped out one, two, or three audiobooks at a time. With no late fees, we encourage our members to keep their rentals as long as they like, ensuring their experience with us is a pleasant one.
