Rubber Stamping Card Ideas

Rubber Stamping Card Ideas

by Staff Writer

People who don’t know any better sometimes use the phrase “rubber stamp” to imply a lack of creativity or original thinking. Boy, are they wrong! As we crafters know, there are endless possibilities in the ways rubber stamps can be used, and no two images have to look alike unless you want them to.

Varying the layout and the colors of inks and papers can create a wide range of different looks and tones from the same stamps. As an example, see Beautiful Blooms in my TAC card gallery. The colors can be either delicate or bright, and forms may be used in different ways. The lavender flower on the third card, for instance, uses the center swirl stamp as leaves. The dragonfly could become the eye of the flower, stem and four leaves. Any shape is just what you make of it!

Using the stamps to create black-and-white images rather than vibrantly colored ones makes a sophisticated statement. Look at the card with the watermelon motif under Seasonal Scribbles. The luscious reds, greens and pinks of the watermelon come from the colored strips underneath the stamped overlay.

You can use rubber stamps with embossing powder to make a raised, glossy image. You can create depth and layers with decoupage techniques. You can pick out details of the stamped image with glitter, beads or embroidery. At Jackkyll Scraps, I offer every type of card stock imaginable, as well as the beautiful designs of The Angel Company. Browse their catalog, and you’ll find more ideas than you’ll ever be able to get to!
