Many present-day glass artisans pattern their work after a style that began in Venice, Italy in the 12th century. The Venetian artists were moved to the island of Murano in 1291 because of the danger that glass firing over an open flame posed to the wooden structures of Venice, and here they remained. So for centuries, artists have learned over and over the art of self-expression, and that the self-expression they practice is more important than the techniques of glass blowing.

Murano is still home to many talented glass artisans. The artist we commission has become proficient in the style of Murano glass, and has moved forward to create his own individual style.
