Pre Owned Rolex Air King

After the Second World War, the Rolex Company’s founder, Hans Wilsdorf, wanted to honor British fighter pilots. He did so by creating a new line of manually wound Oyster watches, which he named after them. Oyster had long been his top-of-the-line watch. These new Oysters were large watches for their time. The Air King was one of these. Other names were Air Giant, Air Tiger, and Air Lion, although those were removed from the catalog within 10 years.

The Air King was available in bands of gold, steel and gold, and in a tri-metal combination into the 1950s. A few of those older models are still around, and are coveted collectibles. Many sported a honey-comb like face.

Eventually, the Rolex Air King was given an automatic movement to bring it in line with newer models. Nowadays it is still in production, and is still a popular watch in the Rolex Oyster line. Currently, it is available only with the stainless steel band, however, you can find a pre-owned Rolex Air King in a number of finishes.
