Home Decorating Tip
by Staff Writer
Because their finances are limited, renting is the only option for many people across the country. Unfortunately, decorating isn’t always easy for apartment dwellers. Oftentimes a lease agreement will stipulate that tenants cannot paint walls or make any structural changes to the space.
When walls must remain a bleak shade of white, turn the negative into a positive. If executed correctly, a white theme will feel clean and fresh rather than stark and sterile. For instance, when working with plain white walls, try slip covering furniture in the same shade of white. This helps them blend into the surroundings and provides a blank slate to work with.
It’s the accent pieces that bring any space to life. Start by adding in a few plants for punches of color. A bowl of fruit on a glass coffee table is colorful in addition to stylish and affordable. Next, consider accent colors. This can be something as subtle as tan or as vivid as orange. When working with white, such bold colors can add drama to a room. Drape a throw on the couch, scatter pillows about the room, or place a collection of small vases on a floating shelf.
The advantage to decorating with a white theme is that it’s relatively economical to replace things like bowls, picture frames, and pillows. This makes it possible to redecorate a space as often as the budget permits. While some people will look at a plain white space as boring, in the right hands and with a few well-chosen accessories, it can become truly elegant.
