Washington State Wineries
by Staff Writer
Washington State wineries have been producing for just over three decades, but have been garnering attention all over the world. This state is one of the top producers in the nation, with over 300 wineries working with more than 15 varietals. In the summer, Washington has more than 17 hours of sunlight per day, but the cool falls allow for longer “hang time,” making these wines some of the tastiest and most robust in the world.
Washington State wineries are grouped into six major sub-regions. These are the Yakima Valley, the Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley, Puget Sound, Red Mountain, and Columbia Gorge. Here at WinoWorld, we comb Washington State wineries to bring our clients the best of this remarkable wine region.
Washington State Wineries Will Surprise You
On our list of top sellers, Washington is well-represented. The Colvin Vineyards Walla Walla Red is our number-one selling red, and for good reason. A complex blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Carmenere, a lot of art and craft went into this wine, and it’s a steal at less than $20 per bottle! Other excellent Washington labels on our “most popular” list include Red Diamond and Canoe Ridge, two wineries that are slowly but surely garnering a strong and respected name for themselves in the wine community.
Forgeron Cellars, whose 2002 Syrah is also one of our top sellers, is a winery that culls its grapes from both the Walla Walla and Columbia valleys. This winery pays close attention to aging, resulting in powerful and eminently drinkable wines. Winemaking is not simply about grapes, but is about a close relationship with every step of the process, and it’s obvious when the winemaker understands the impact of such processes as proper barrel maturation.
