Natural House Cleaning

Natural House Cleaning

by Staff Writer

Many commonly available household cleaning items are made from harsh and even toxic chemicals. While they are mostly safe and get the job done, some people prefer to take a more natural approach. In the days before chemical cleaning products, housework got done with items from nature, and these products remain available today for those who prefer natural (or green) house cleaning.

When looking at house cleaning products, try to find ones that use citrus (or hydrogen peroxide) based sanitizers. Cleansers that take advantage of the natural cleaning properties of citrus are far less harmful to the environment that products that are made with chlorine–another common cleaning chemical. Chlorine has the potential to breed unwanted toxic organic compounds, which can harm your home or even your health.

To help keep the environment clean, only purchase items that are made with recycled packaging. More and more, cleaning products are coming in extravagant plastic bottles that are wasteful. Search for slim, minimalist packaging that is made from recycled plastic or paper.

When you take care of your home with green-friendly materials, you’re also taking care of your community. Be sure to recycle the packaging from products once you’ve used them up. Just make sure that bottles and boxes are marked with the appropriate recycling symbol for your town’s recycling program. This article is so spot on! I run a house cleaning service here in Tucson. The problem for me is that ECO friendly products do work but not very quickly. So I use commercial products mostly. It’s the down side of what I do.
However, I suggest using caution… I have previously owned a plant nursery and “organic” doesn’t mean safe! Use caution when using any chemical products… And read the labels. This post caught my eye as I have just began an ECO
