Spring Cleaning
by Staff Writer
Spring cleaning is a traditional ritual of setting the springtime season off to a good start by removing clutter from the house. It not only marks the start of spring, but also the end of a winter’s hibernation indoors and the beginning of a more active time of year. Spring cleaning gives you a great feeling and a sense of accomplishment, as well as being good for your family and for your home.
Since it’s spring cleaning, one of the first things to do is pack away winter clothes. Don’t let bulky sweaters and big jackets clutter up your closets and drawers–pack them up and store them away neatly to help keep them preserved. This will make room for you to bring out all your spring and summer outfits for the season, and care for them properly by not cramming them in your closet.
Give the house a real cleaning. Move furniture around so that you can vacuum all the places you usually miss. Take books and photos off your shelves so that you can dust and wipe them down. If everyone in the family tackles one room or one chore, you’ll discover that the whole house will be tidy very quickly!
Spring is also the time to remove general clutter from the house. Spend the day getting rid of old magazines, toys, and knick knacks that you don’t need anymore. It can be difficult to part with of some things, but having the extra elbow room around the house is worth it. Removing the clutter from your house is a big part of spring cleaning–you’ll feel like you’ve opened up new spaces in your home when you’ve finished! First project at the Morganstern household, will be cleaning out the bookshelves. We have more books that we have years left to read, or re-read them. Favorites will be kept, but others, donated to the library, or sold. Then, some of the books stacked on or below our nighttables can be shelved. The shelves will be dusted as will the books that are replaced on them.
The second project is to be determined later.

I spend most of my time in the kitchen and so always clean the refrigerator each spring. Everything gets removed, questionable items tossed, shelves cleaned and disinfected, vegetable and meat bins removed and cleaned in the set-tub.
The worst part is removing everything from the freezer. Sometimes it’s hard to see through the freezer frost on those things that got lost under the rest. Throw it out! Keep a list of what’s in there and update it. Then you won’t have 9 old frozen beef patties with 1/2″ frost on them to throw away.

We are going to do our annual spring cleaning of the garage. Everything out, floor scrubbed, junk pitched, garden tools cleaned, sharpened if necessary. Finally everything put back in its place.
The basement was to have been done this winter but time got away from us and it’s still waiting to be cleaned out. I need a good garage sale because I have lots of stuff that is worth some serious $$.
