Rebounder

by Staff Writer

A rebounder is a bouncing device similar to a trampoline, but with a smaller bouncing surface and much shorter legs than a real trampoline. Technically, a mini-trampoline is a bouncing device with its surface set on a diagonal to allow a gymnast or stunt man to be catapulted into the air. An indoor trampoline is another name often used to describe a rebounder. People who bounce tend to refer to the quality units as rebounders and the inexpensive ones as mini trampolines. However, in common usage, all three terms can be used interchangeably.

Most rebounders are circular in design.

Rebounders are available in sizes for kids and for adults. Most rebounders are circular in design, but different shapes such as rectangles, rhomboids, or squares are also on the market. Some rebounder models have hinges and can be folded up for easier transport and travel. The folding models come with carrying cases. Most of the quality rebounders are black, with black mats, spring covers, frames and legs. A major, but optional accessory for a rebounder is the stabilizer bar which provides a security handle for anyone worried about losing their balance or falling off their rebounder.

A rebounder can be a tool for exercise, weight loss, recuperation, health enhancement, stress release, and mental clarity and integration. Al Carter explains why this is so in his many books and lectures. He states, “Rebounding is the most efficient, effective exercise ever devised by man.” Such effective, efficient, and almost effortless exercise easily burns fat. James R White, Ph.D, was a professor at the physical education research laboratory at UC San Diego when he wrote Jump for Joy. This book tells the story of thousands of people who used rebounding to speed their recovery from broken bones and other injuries. Bouncing on a rebounder is like giving your immune system a heart, which it physically does not have. The enhanced circulation of lymph, blood, and other bodily fluids from rebounding causes numerous secondary and beneficial health effects. Ask anyone who rebounds and they will assure you that using a rebounder, even for just a few minutes, exchanges stress and tension for energy and calmness. There is also a growing awareness among families of autistic children and families whose children have learning disabilities that bouncing on a rebounder may provide mental clarity and improve mental development and integration.

Those who use rebounders regularly experience phenomenal results. They grow stronger and more fit, they tone muscles and slim down, their bodies remain relaxed, limber, and full of energy, they experience less illness, and many symptoms of aging are reversed. Many say that for the first time in their lives they have found a physical activity that they look forward to doing every day. Bouncing on a rebounder puts smiles on their faces.
