Sony 128 MB Memory Stick
by Staff Writer
Sony’s introduction of the Memory Stick® into the broad consumer market in 1998 still represents somewhat of a coup in the flash memory sector. Probably due to Sony’s saturation of the electronics markets, its proprietary technology has remained capable of competing against the rest of the non-proprietary, flash technologies. By licensing the rights to produce Memory Stick® products, Sony can keep control over it and still reap the benefits of broad market penetration.
The Sony 128MB Memory Stick® represented the top end of the original Memory Stick® line. The short-lived Memory Stick Select™ line boosted that number, but the big gains were made with the Memory Stick PRO™ line–which is currently available in capacities up to 4GB. With the introduction of the Memory Stick Duo™ and High Speed lines, Sony has some of the smallest, fastest, and highest capacity flash memory products available.
Synchrotech is a licensed provider of Memory Stick® products, and offers products from the other two major licensees, SanDisk and Lexar, as well.
