USB

When it comes to computer connectivity, no connection medium has had the kind of societal impact that USB has. USB is short for Universal Serial Bus, and it has revolutionized the way that people connect devices to their computers. The most positive benefit of using USB is its cross-platform nature. While disk drives need to be formatted to a particular operating system, USB devices typically work on every major OS. USB has been extensively used since 1998.
The first manifestation, USB 1.0, established USB as the new standard in cross-platform device implementation. But it was limited, because the speeds at which USB 1.0 could travel were relatively slow (12 MB per second). This all changed with USB 2.0, which was unveiled about five years ago and supports speeds up to 480 MB per second.
USB 2.0 is second only to Firewire® in terms of speed, but it is used much more extensively than Firewire®. This is because it was designed by a coalition of leading computer manufacturers, while Firewire® was developed solely by the Apple Corporation. Virtually every external computer device has been made to conform to the USB standard. Media devices like digital cameras and cell phones, printers, scanners, iPods, external hard drives, and even MIDI instruments all use USB.
Synchrotech offers a great number of USB storage devices (pens), readers, Ethernet and PCI to USB adapters, port replicators, USB to serial port adapters, and much more. They also sell USB hubs that connect via PCI or PCMCIA. They carry all major manufacturers and all their products come with a full warranty.
