PC Card Reader
by Staff Writer
The need for external and peripheral devices is growing with every new technology that is incorporated into home computers. Computers are fast becoming the centerpieces of our lives. Consumers use them to communicate, document, do business, and have fun. Each aspect of computer interaction requires the use of either software or hardware: the diversity of hardware devices, in particular, is expanding.
These external devices need a way to connect to a computer, be it a desktop or laptop, and this is why PC cards were born. There are a few different types of PC cards, but their size and formats have in recent memory been largely standardized to make it easier for everyone, consumers and computer manufacturers alike. Today, the main types of PC cards are IDE internal, PCI, or PCMCIA.
For all aforementioned formats, a PC card reader is needed to ease communication between device and computer. IDE internal cards connect directly to the soundboard via an IDE cable. This is the most direct form of PC Card Reader that Synchrotech offers. PCI desktop cards are also internal, although they are plugged into a PCI slot in the back of the motherboard. Sound cards, video cards, USB port cards, and Ethernet cards are usually of the PCI variety.
PCMCIA cards, on the other hand, accomplish many of the same things that PCI cards do, except they do it for laptops. PC Card Readers are needed to make it possible to read media cards like SmartCards of Compact Flash cards. Synchrotech makes and distributes high quality PC card readers for businesses and independent users at competitive prices and with unbeatable warranties.
