Cabachon Rings
by Staff Writer
Cabouchon rings have stones of a unique cut. Rather than having facets, like most stones, cabouchon-cut stones are smooth and rounded. This cut is ideal for opaque stones, since they don’t need to engage in the type of light-play that transparent stones do. Cabouchon rings tend to be striking, offering an interesting juxtaposition of bold stone and shining band.
One of the cabouchon rings offered at the Celtic Jewellery Shop is called “the Ailsa,” and each is handmade in Scotland. The Island of Ailsa Craig is what these lovely rings are named for, and it was this island that sailors first saw when returning from foreign shores. For this reason, these rings are very effective at representing home, true love, or your spiritual center.
One of our most striking cabouchon rings features a smoky quartz in a worked band made of precious metal (yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold). Smoky quartz is a stone not often seen, and it’s silver-brown color is sultry and mysterious. Other gems featured on our cabouchon rings include garnet, amethyst, and aquamarine, among others.
Cabouchon rings are only one type of offering from the Celtic Jewellery Shop. We also sell engagement rings, whimsical “Nessie” pins (that have a remarkably elegant and modern design!), and Celtic cross jewellery. We ship quickly, and our prices are highly competitive, especially considering our high standards of workmanship, and our tradition-rich local silver- and goldsmiths.
