Though the Cook Islands are made up of 15 islands, most visitors concern themselves with just two of these mini-paradises: Rarotonga and Aitutaki. Rarotonga is often compared to Tahiti, in terms of its geography. Rugged cliffs, azure waters and sandy beaches make it a breathtaking spot. Aitutaki, on the other hand, is likened to Bora Bora. Time moves more slowly here, which can be frustrating to some Westerners used to “on-the-double” service. But for those really looking to get away and enjoy life more slowly for a brief bit of time, there is no finer escape than the Cook Islands. Don’t be fooled, however, into thinking that there’s nothing here to do but sleep and eat (and eat well, mind you)–there’s enough snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, shopping and sightseeing possible to make you glad your days seem longer.
